Profile Alan Robinson FCA

A fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, I spent my first post qualification years auditing major international companies in the UK and France. In 1977 I embarked upon a career in the financial control of manufacturing/engineering companies that led me to the chairmanship of a French engineering company that supplied filtration systems internationally to the pharmaceutical, petrochemical and nuclear industries. My involvement with IT started very early on; I have always maintained a high level of IT technology usage in the companies I have worked for and in 2000 set up my own company within the University of Manchester to develop Internet-based applications. We have used this e-technology to help education, health and social services to work together and share information amongst themselves and the many private individuals/agencies involved. I am very much aware of the issues surrounding data sharing from security to the DPA and was involved in the initial phases of the government's e-gif (e-government interoperability framework) strategy as a member of the Government Schema Group.
